We celebrated the Vesak Day on May 27, 2018 at our temple. It is the day the Buddha-to-be was born, the day the Buddhahood was attained and the day the Buddha passed away from the cycle of rebirth (entered into Nirvana (Nibbana)).
U Kyaw Aung, Daw San Thawda Kyaing and family donated lunch to both Venerable Sanda and all attendees for the Vesak Day celebration on May 27, 2018.
Venerable Sanda delivered Dhamma to all devotes in the shrine room. The summary of his Dhamma was as follows:
There are four things that are not easy to attain. They are
1. To be a human being,
2. To have a long healthy life without disease,
3. To be able to listen to Dhamma or wise people, and
4. To get Buddha or to attain the Buddhahood.
To attain the Buddhahood, one must work hard to perfect 10 perfections and 30 varieties of the perfections in countless lives.
- Perfection of Giving (Dana),
- Perfection of Morality (Sila),
- Perfection of Renunciation (Nekkhamma),
- The Perfection of Discerning Wisdom (Panna),
- Perfection of Energy (Viriya),
- Perfection of Patience (Khanti),
- Perfection of Truthfulness,
- Perfection of Determination (Adhitthana),
- Perfection of Loving kindness (Metta), and
- Perfection of Equanimity (Upekkha).
For example, he perfected “Dana” which is the practice of cultivating generosity by donating his blood, eyes, body, internal organ, wife, son, daughter, property, food, money and so on to name a few of his donation and generosity. The amount of his donated blood is more than the body of water of four oceans. Similarly, the number of his donated eyes is more than the stars in the moonless night sky.
Because of those perfection practices in his past lives, the Buddha was perfect. We can’t simply express the attributes of the Buddha in words.
Sadhu! Sadhu!Sadhu!
