Kahtina Robe offering ceremony

We, MTBS, plan to hold Kahtina Robe offering ceremony to donate robes to the six members of the Sangha, including Venerable U Sanda, on November 5, 2023, Sunday.

You can donate robe(s) for $50 each.

The main food for the event is Mote Hin Gar (Burmese noodle in fish gravy).  In order for a wider audience to participate in the event, we would like to offer you an opportunity to be a donor for the foods to the attendees at the event by donating $100.

10:00 a.m. –  Taking five precepts,
10:05 a.m. –  Celebration of Kahtina Robe Offering and Listening to Dhamma talk,
11:05 am.  –  Offering donations to the members of Sangha,
11:15 a.m. –  Offering lunch to the members of Sangha, and
11:20 a.m. –  Lunch (Mote Hin Gar (Burmese noodle in fish gravy)) to well-wishers.

If you want to donate for foods as a food donor and/or robe(s), please contact Venerable U Sanda at 604-951-9054 or Dennis Ko (President) at 604-761-0419 or by sending eTransfer or via Canadahelp.org.  You can donate cash/foods/robes at the event too.

In addition, if you would like to donate something to make a toiletries tree that would be donated to the attending members of Sangha, you can kindly send them to the temple in advance or bring them with you to the event.

We are seeking volunteers to prepare Mote-hin-gar on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 10 am to 1-2 pm for the event.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers on that day.  Please show up at the monastery on  October 31, 2023, around 10 am if you are able to volunteer.

A special invitation to a Dhamma talk and Potluck at MTBS on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the fond memorial of Aunty Dulcie

We have sad news to share as Aunty Dulcie, a former board member of MTBS, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25 2023 at 2 pm in Prince George, BC. She is remembered as a kind, gentle, warmhearted and helpful lady at MTBS. We send our prayers and condolences to Daw Sanda Win (Aunty Dulcie’s sister) and family.

We plan to hold a special Dhamma talk and offer a Potluck to share merit with late Aunty Dulcie on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

It is a community event – a potluck lunch, and there is no donor/sponsor for the event.  Please bring your favorite dish(es)/food(s)/dessert(s) to be shared.  The MTBS will prepare rice and cutlery for the event.  

We also welcome anyone who would like to contribute any amount of cash donation for Aunty Dulcie’s last journey. In this regard, please kindly give your cash donation to Sayadaw U Sanda or U Dennis Ko, either before September 16 or at the event on September 16. Once MTBS collects all the donations, MTBS will make a list of donors, and transfer money to Daw Sanda Win in Prince George.

Waso Robe offering ceremony on Sunday, Aug 13, 2023

We plan to hold this year’s Waso Robe offering ceremony on Sunday, Aug 13, 2023 at MTBS.

MTBS hosted a food fair on Sunday, July 23, 2023.
Well-wishers have kindly purchased the foods, and vendors/donors raised a total of $ 5,993.85 for MTBS..

Monthly One Day Meditation Retreat

We are continuing our monthly one day Meditation retreat (on the last Sunday of every month) at MTBS.  For the month of July 2023, the monthly day retreat falls on coming Sunday, July 30th, 2023.

Meditators are advised to bring a potluck dish to share on this day retreat.

For this retreat Sayardaw U Sanda has some guidance for the meditators to follow.

  1. Retreat will be from 9 am till 5 pmand meditators to be on time in the morning to pray and take 5 precepts before the meditation starts together with Sayardaw.
    Also Sayardaw will give Dhamma Talk in the evening and will distribute merit before we leave at 5pm.  Sayardaw requests that you stay for the full period of the time.
  2. Lunch time will be from 11 am till 12 noon and Sayardaw has requested no socializing or talking at any time during the whole period of the retreat.
  3. Sayardaw has suggested one hour sitting and one hour walking during the retreat but meditators can also choose their meditation routine.

In addition to the monthly day meditation retreat, we have one hour weekly meditation every Saturday at 3 pm with the guidance of Sayardaw U Sanda for the Novice meditators and for anybody who can give little time and can’t join the monthly retreat,or who would like to come routinely every week.

Our food fair for 2023 will be on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

We are going to celebrate a combination of Myanmar (Burmese) New Year and  Buddha (Vesak) day with Dhamma talk on Sunday June 25, 2023 at the MTBS temple. Dr. Tun Zan Maung, Daw Khin Khin Oo and family will generously donate  Lunch (Mote-hin-gar)  to all attendees.

You can also take some wholesome merit (Kuso) by laying the tables and chairs for all attendees and well-wishers before the event, taking them down and doing clean-up after the event.

There will be more parking spots available inside the next door compound on the 108th Ave.
